Boat lift repair in Mooresville

Deeper water and bigger boats mean bigger lifts, and bigger lifts fail differently.

Capacity changes the failure mode

A lift rated for a heavy boat has more cable on the drum, more travel, and more stored energy in the system. When something lets go, it lets go with more behind it. That is why cable inspection matters more at this end of the lake than it does where the boats are lighter.

Two motors is two things to go out of step

Twin-motor lifts are common on larger cradles and they introduce a failure the single-motor versions do not have: the two sides drifting out of synchronisation. It shows up as a cradle that lifts noticeably unevenly, and it puts a twisting load through a frame designed for straight lift.

Stop using a lift that lifts crooked

A cradle that comes up out of level is not a cosmetic complaint. It concentrates load on one side of the structure and on one cable, which is the fastest way to convert an alignment problem into a cable failure with a boat in the air.

Questions

One side of the cradle comes up faster. What is that?

Either uneven cable winding, a seized sheave on the slow side, or on twin-motor lifts the two drives falling out of step. All three concentrate load where the structure was not designed to carry it.

How often should cables be replaced?

On interval rather than on appearance. Cables degrade internally, so waiting for a visible symptom means waiting past the point where the remaining strength is unknown.
